About SERVIR-Mekong

Dr. Karthikeyan Matheswaran

Research Fellow, SEI

Karthi is a hydrologist with in experiences applying modelling tools for water resources management in South Asia, Africa and now in Mekong region. His areas of work and expertise include applying hydrologic and hydraulic model tools, and remote sensing for applied research projects which includes flood hazard modelling for index insurance, drought monitoring and forecasting, rapid emergency response, salinity modelling in Aral Sea basin, groundwater-surface water interactions, stable isotopes for tracing spring recharge areas in Nepal, stream temperature monitoring and modelling and urban wastewater network modelling.  Currently, Karthi is focusing on the creating web-based water allocation tools and river morphological monitoring system for supporting water resources management in Lower Mekong region. As a representative from SEI for SERVIR-Mekong, Karthi collaborates with the consortium in building geospatial products and tools and networking with line agencies in the Lower Mekong Region.

Karthi had previously worked with International Water Management Institute (IWMI) as a postdoctoral researcher, where he provided technical leadership to the projects in Water, Risks and Disaster group and salinity modelling in Aral Sea basin in Central Asia. His research interests lie in utilizing wide array of model and geo-informatic tools for assessing the past, present and future state of water resources to provide a knowledge base for increasing resilience of vulnerable communities to water related risks.

Karthi is a Research Fellow at Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), a Consortium partner of SERVIR-Mekong.
