Request Technical Assistance

Are you looking for support or need advice/information related to geospatial technology in the Mekong region?

Are you looking for a partner in co-developing products or services? If so, then please take a few minutes to submit a Request for Technical Assistance. By submitting a request, SERVIR-Mekong may be able help you overcome the challenges you face with applying geospatial data and technology into decision making and planning.

Your requests also give us ideas of how to make our project more suited to regional needs. As a client driven project, SERVIR-Mekong strives to ensure our work is meeting the needs of governments and other key stakeholders in the region to promote decision making based on geospatial technology. We encourage all types of requests, small or large.

The Kind of Assistance We Can Provide

1.Request a new or customized dataset

Looking new or custom dataset to help your work? SERVIR-Mekong is committed to developing custom datasets for specific decision making contexts in the region. All of our custom datasets can be found here (Include link). If you need a customized dataset, then let us know! We will work with you to develop a solution that works for you.

Previous requests have included:

The NHI requested the SERVIR-Mekong team to provide datasets on mapping barriers to fish movement along the Xekong River. By submitting a request, SERVIR-Mekong was able to provide the custom dataset to support the work of NHI.

2.Request a new or customized tool

Have a problem in getting the right analysis for a geospatial related issue? If so, SERVIR-Mekong may be able to help you access new or customized tools to help. Submit a request to partner with SERVIR-Mekong in developing a new tool to help apply geospatial data to decision making in the region.

Previous requests have included:

The Provincial Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development in Vietnam faced the complex challenge of accounting for the supply and demand of water at the basin level. Without the adequate tools in place, the Ministry of Agriculture and Development requested support from SERVIR-Mekong in developing an online system to explore scenarios of water demand, provision and regulation.

3.Request training or capacity building

Interested learning a new piece of technology or tool related to geospatial data in the Mekong region? Or want to learn more about SERVIR-Mekong and the value of geospatial technology for resilience? If so, please submit a request for trainings, presentations or possible internships with SERVIR-Mekong. SERVIR-Mekong is committed to working with partners in the region to build their awareness and capacity related to geospatial data and technology for sustainable development.

Previous requests have included:

The Royal University of Phnom Penh requested training support on Google Earth Engine. As a result, SERVIR-Mekong was able to organize a two-day training on this tool for the requesting partner.

4.Request technical advice or consulting

Have a problem or a challenge related to geospatial data and technology but not sure what the solution is or where to find a solution? If so, please submit a request for technical advice or consulting. One of our staff will get in contact with you to provide you the information you need to resolve your problem.

Previous requests have included:

A requestor was looking to access a specific Sentinel 2 scene for a specific place and time but was unable to find this information. After submitting a request, SERVIR-Mekong was able to direct the requestor to the resources they needed to resolve their query.

Application Guidelines

SERVIR-Mekong encourages all regional stakeholders to submit requests for technical assistance.

Here are some guidelines for submissions:

  1. The submitting institution (or affiliation of the submitting individual) must be a Lower Mekong Region government unit, non-government organization, academic or research institute, bilateral or multilateral agency, or private sector entity.
  2. The proposed support should involve the creation or application of geospatial information and/or technology;
  3. The proposed support should clearly outline how the support will be relevant to planning processes, policy formulation or other decision making in the region.
  4. Regional based support will be prioritized. Submitted requests must be relevant for one or more of the following countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
  5. The proposed support will be prioritized but not limited to one or more of the following themes:
