SERVIR-Mekong Receives Award at Annual Exchange in Lisbon

From November 12 to 16, the fourth SERVIR Annual Global Exchange (SAGE), held in Lisbon, Portugal, convened over 100 participants from SERVIR hubs covering the Mekong, Hindu Kush-Himalaya, Eastern and Southern Africa and West Africa regions; the SERVIR Science Coordination Office; NASA and USAID Headquarters; USAID Missions; SERVIR Support Team; and SERVIR Applied Sciences Team members from institutions across the United States along with partner organizations. 

This year’s the theme, Pathways to Mature Services, focused on creating sustainability and scalability across the global hub network. SERVIR-Mekong presented posters highlighting work in four service areas: improved drought monitoring and forecasting information for agricultural planning in Vietnam and Lower Mekong; utilizing land cover maps for greenhouse gas reporting and forest monitoring in Myanmar; improving flood forecasting through satellite rainfall estimates in the Lower Mekong Region; and, near real-time flood monitoring in Myanmar. SERVIR-Mekong’s poster Supporting Flood Forecasting of the Lower Mekong Region Using Satellite Derived Rainfall and Water Level Estimations was awarded for excellence in demonstrating integrated service planning design and delivery, as well as the overall people's choice award. 

In addition, SERVIR-Mekong and SERVIR Hindu Kush-Himalaya’s joint effort on the Regional Land Cover Monitoring System was recognized for successfully improving and expanding the service, transforming access and analytical ability for land cover monitoring across the regions. Professor Dr. Farrukh Chishtie, SERVIR-Mekong’s Science and Data Lead, was also awarded for his excellent services and mentoring of team of young scientists
